Considering that estimates indicate that the sports industry is responsible for between 3 to 6 percent of total world trade, it should come as no surprise that it is also an important source of legal disputes. With particular interest to the arbitral community, we can assume that arbitration is now firmly established as the method for resolving many of these disputes in the sports industry, with the Court Arbitration for Sport (CAS / TAS) in Lausanne at the international level, and with the Arbitral Tribunal for Sport at the national level. Sports arbitration has several features that make it different from standard commercial arbitration.
Thus, some of the specific characteristics that distinguish it from general commercial arbitration, were a determining reason for the creation of the Sports Arbitration Council within APA. Having started its activity in September 2019, the Sports Arbitration Council includes as members Nuno Albuquerque (President), António Pedro Pinto Monteiro, Gonçalo Malheiro and Pedro Melo.
